I setup Ruby on Rails yesterday on my Apple G5 Desktop. It was actually a really easy process because I follow this step by step guide.

I read through most of the Agile Web Development with Rails book on Saturday so I could get more familiar with the basics. I have the Rails Recipes book on order so I can get a jump on some of the more advanced things you can do with Rails.

So far so good as far as the experience goes. We’ll see if I still think the same thing when I build my first web application on rails.

I have a few ideas for what I’m going to build but I have to narrow it down more before really getting started. Thats my next step.

Ruby on Rails is an open-source web framework that’s optimized for programmer happiness and sustainable productivity. It lets you write beautiful code by favoring convention over configuration.

This is my first real opportunity to explore the advantages and details of Ruby on Rails. I’m going to test it out by building a basic web application and we’ll see where that takes us.

I was very impressed with their demo video and the other services that have been created using Ruby on Rails. I thought at first that it wouldn’t be a good alternative to .NET 2.0 but after more research I realized that it is a perfect alternative to .NET.

I guess we’ll see how this goes.
